The Austrian Schnitzel Headquarters in Waite Park/St Cloud, MN is genuine Austrian. I know, because I am an Austrian living in the US. Two guys from Vienna opened the restaurant in October 2008 to introduce the upper Midwest to genuine Viennese dishes, which are not the same as German dishes. The place is designed in a modern style, without the fake rustic ambiance that one usually finds in local German restaurants. Several large screens show gorgeous video clips and slide shows of Austria.
The owner's attention to detail goes beyond preparing the dishes the same way as they are prepared in Austria. Even the beverages choices are imported from the old home country. Lovers of Hirter Beer and Almdudler Lemonade now have a place on this continent where they can order those rarities. The two owners from Vienna often come out to chat with their guests and the staff is also very welcoming.
The food is very reasonably priced and tastes excellent. My favorite is the Eispalatschinken from the desert menu - Crepes filled with ice cream.
Saint Cloud is fortunate to have a great restaurant that is so unique that there is not anything like it between New York and L.A. I would definitely recommend to anyone to try it out.

My boyfriend and I tried the new Schnitzel place on St. Patty's day. It was super busy and the poor waitress was very overwhelmed. They weren't expecting an Austrian restaurant to be so busy on an Irish holiday. :) She was very nice and apologetic and handled it very well. I ordered the Wiener schnitzel w/ garlic and a mixed salad (which is basically a sample of each of their sides) and my boyfriend got the farmers feast. We both thought our food was awesome, however he felt the portions were a little small but I thought they were decent. (Mind you, he eats very large portions where I usually need a to-go box) I also tried the elder flower juice and thought it was great! He also had an Austrian beer of some sort and we got apple strudel for dessert. It was a great change of pace to eat authentic food and while it was a little more expensive than your average Applebee's or Friday's night out, I would say it was well worth it! I would definitely go back, and I would even venture to say that if they are as busy the other nights as they were that one, they are going to need a bigger place to expand their seating.

P.S. The Viennese Cucumber Garlic salad was AMAZING!!
